As you may have read from another article in this blog, that carbon monoxide poisoning in car is one of the most deadly case related with this matter. People in car will never realize that carbon monoxide is continuously introduced while they are staying in the car through leak exhaust gas line. So that’s why it is recommended to install carbon monoxide detector for car.
Let’s back to our topic, how carbon monoxide poisoning works.
How Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Works
In normal condition, oxygen will be picked up by red cells. Then, red cells bring oxygen and distribute them into tissues.
In our case, when oxygen comes together with carbon monoxide gas, red cells will pick up carbon monoxides quicker then oxygen. Carbon monoxide will displace oxygen in your blood as its amount increases and increases. Carbon monoxide reacts with hemoglobin in blood red cell to form carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO).
Then, what will happen after that? This blocks hemoglobin from releasing oxygen in tissues. Then it damages tissues and results in death.
In the next article, we will see the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. When we can recognize its symptom, we can take quick and correct actions to save life.
